VOCATIONAL SKILLS PROGRAMME

We run a vocational skills programme for young people aged 14 to 16 years that are excluded from or part time in school.

The programme enables young people to:

Gain accredited qualifications
Learn life skills
Participate and learn about Sports, Boxing, health and fitness
Access Mentoring
Learn and Achieve in an alternative environment

Currently 30 young people per week attend our programme and we are contracted with Sheffield City Council to enable us to deliver this programme.

ACTIVITY PROGRAMME

The activity programme runs throughout the year and allows young people from all our affiliated clubs access to heavily subsidised activities and residential trips.

This year’s activities include Mountain Biking, Indoor Skiing, Lazer-Tag, Wild Camp. Trampolining, Go-Karting and many more, as well as 2 Residential trips where young people take part in outdoor activities and self-catering.

The heavily subsidised cost of these trips allows young people from all backgrounds to take part and meet new people, gain valuable new experiences, self-confidence and life-skills.

DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR THE FUTURE

Developing Skills for the Future is a Personal & Social Development programme which we deliver in schools, youth clubs and training providers across Sheffield.

Delivery normally takes place over a number of weeks and covers areas vital to young people’s development including; Communication, Employability, Sexual Health, Dealing with Emotions, Drugs and Alcohol awareness and Ambition.

The course is AQA accredited, and delivered by qualified youth workers in an informal style using activities and games which engage young people and teaches them self-confidence and social skills as well as the core subject matter.

CLUB DEVELOPMENT

BGCSY is committed to maintaining, assisting and expanding youth work in open-access youth clubs and currently is working closely with 7 of it's affiliated youth clubs across South Yorkshire.

It is becoming more increasingly difficult, in these times of austerity, for generic, non-targeted youth clubs to survive, however the need for young people to have a place to go, and take part in positive activities to aid their development is becoming, if anything more important.

BGCSY recognises this and works with our affiliated youth clubs to raise funds, recruit volunteers, write policies, support workers, share project ideas and access the Activity Programme.
